Born and raised in Central New York:
Cheri Giraud spent her childhood in the northern suburbs of Syracuse, New York, Liverpool, New York to be exact. during the late 60s. She was born into an Italian American family filled with family traditions and challenging events that made her upbringing with what some would call movie worthy.
No stranger to a challenge…
As a daughter of a charismatic, larger-than-life, father, who by night delved into less savory activities, Cheri yearned to be part of that thrilling atmosphere. It was filled with wild nightlife, flashy clothes and jewelry, shiny black cars, fine dining, fancy cocktails and of course music. Music to her father was the soundtrack of life. All kinds of music, but jazz and standards were the highlight reels.
Finding an escape through music…
Cheri found music was the calming force in her life. She learned that she had a voice and would love to entertain. She would use it to draw attention at family gatherings or for comic relief. She would listen to her favorites, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and she would belt out the tunes. She would sing at family weddings and funerals but never allowed herself to dream of performing for others.
And then came time for a change
After 40 years away from her hometown, Cheri found herself back in Syracuse after family tragedy. She knew it was time to share her story through her music. She knew it was time to share her love and the story of the music of her life.
Right place, right time
A chance meeting with one of upstate New Yorks famous musician and beloved producer, Todd Hobin, led her to her “comeback” performance at the Syracuse Marriot in 2021. It was wildly successful, and she overfilled the performance area into the downtown streets.
She was back!! Bringing crowds to their feet set after set.
And the rest is history in the making.
Cheers to a prosperous future ahead
Cheri plans to release her debut CD in October 2024 with additional shows planned in North Carolina, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York City, and, of course, around her hometown, Syracuse, NY.
